Lot #3201 – Habring2 Jumping Seconds Watch

Estimate: $3,500.00 – $4,500.00

Rare stainless steel and rose gold plated gents Habring2 Jumping Seconds wristwatch with date.  Tutone Habring2 Austria sector dial with applied rose gold tone bar hour markers.  Self winding, automatic movement featuring “Seconde Morte” seconds.  Comes on a black Habring 2 leather strap with a stainless steel tang buckle.  Accompanied by a fitted Habring2 watch box and Habring warranty (no longer valid) with general instruction manual book.  Approximate diameter is 42mm.  This is a rare tutone model as the Habring2 Jumping Second is more commonly found in an all stainless steel version.

Has superficial scratches due to normal wear and age.  The overall condition is very good. Running at the time of inspection, however not checked for accuracy nor water resistance/proofness. An overhaul is always recommended for used watches.

“Jumping Seconds” aka “Deadbeat Seconds” or “Dead Seconds” (“Seconde Morte”) beats at one beat per second which is seen when the seconds hand jumps between seconds.  Richard Towneley created the deadbeat escapement which was later used by George Graham in regulator clocks.  Starting in the 1950`s and 1960`s, watch manufacturers like Omega and Rolex used this mechanism in such models as the Rolex Tru Beat and the Omega Synchrobeat.

Richard Habring was a master watchmaker at prestigious manufacturers such as Jaeger Le-Coultre, A. Lange & Sohne, and IWC.    The company celebrated 20 Years Of Habring Tourbillons in 2009.
